The NGS Gentlemen's Skiing

Januray 9-16th 2016

Tignes

France

Once again the Gentlemen headed off to the Espace Killy for their January ski trip. We've had excellent conditions in this domain for several years on the trot and this was no different.

Always keen to liven things up, the Gentlemen did some stunt skiing and even managed a helicopter flight. The good conditions led to very long days, which kind of zapped some of the drinking prowess. However, that was a small proce to pay for being first on the mountain every day.

The latest ski plans, as they unfold, can always be found on the our dedicated ski page. The date for next year is set in stone, so you can book your annual leave and flights.

Honestly, you wouldn't even contemplate a visit unless you had to, would you??

The Benidorm Stag

Thursday September 4th

Benidorm

Spain

Another lucky lady has manged to be ensnared by one of the Gentlemen, so the Society wracked its brains to come up with another innovative send-off.

The plan? A nice weekend in Alicante. It could all have been a bit too civilised, so the Gentlemen reminded themselves of life back home in the Bigg Market with a Friday night out in Benidorm.

As the chaps are increasing sporty these days, we enjoyed some superb coasteering on the Friday, definitely an activity worth doing if you're in the area. Hard work though - four quick pints were necessary for hydration afterwards.

The Goddess of Beer...

Tynedale Beer Festival

Saturday June 14th

1254 Train from Ncl

Corbridge

The Gentlemen love Beer Festivals, and this is their favourite - not only because it's a great day out, but because we are again official sponsors the event!!

Once again the chaps enjoyed a fine festival - we even managed to get there without having a few cheeky ones en-route. The weather held for the first time in a couple of years, making for pleasant beers in the sun. One or two brave sould tried the food, and survived.

As usual, a few cheeky ones were sourced on the way home - completely unnecessary!

The NGS Cycling Trip

Thursday April 24th 2014

La Palma

Mallorca

This event was trailled for a Stag Do back in 2013, and was a great success. So much so, that we now make it an annual event.

The Gentlemen headed off to Majorca on the Thursday, and spent a couple of days cycling around the island, visiting a few quiet taparias, enjoying some relaxing lunches and generally taking in the scenery. One of the keener cyclists elected to do the Mallorca 312 - a 312km circuit of the island in 14 hours. Nutter!

The NGS Gentlemen's Ski Trip

Saturday February 22nd

Wengen, Austria

The Gentlemen are keen skiers; and having got the season off to an excellent start in Tignes, were itching to get back on the snow..

The plan this time round was to get one over on the poor conditions this season. We chose Wengen in the week running up to departure and booked last minute.

We enjoyed top conditions and excellent hospitality in a somewhat disjointed ski region. However, it was snow, there were lifts and we were happy!

Newcastle Assembly Rooms

NGS Burns' Night Supper

Saturday January 24th

19:00 Assembly Rooms (18:00 for Whisky Tasting)

Newcastle upon Tyne

Once again, the NGS was proud to be hosting the 15th Annual Burns' Supper.

Following a tasting of fine whiskies, the Gentlemen were piped in to join the ladies before sitting down to a traditional dinner of haggis 'neeps and tatties.  The haggis was addressed in the traditional way, and the meal was followed by witty and entertaining speeches.  The rest of the evening was given over to carousing and Scottish dancing.

The NGS Gentlemen's Ski Trip

Saturday January 4th-11th 2014

Tignes

The Gentlemen are keen skiers; and they also like boys' trips away. Hence the perfect union that is the Gentlemen's ski trip.

We headed off to Tignes again this year. The chaps found a simple catered chalet option just a few metres from the slopes. We were blessed with a big dump of snow in the few days leading up to our arrival and clear blue skies throughout the week

Full details of our next trip are always on the dedicated NGS Ski Page, which also lists the flights booked to date.

 A marathon amongst beautiful châteaux...

Médoc Marathon

Thursday Sept 5th 2013

Bordeaux/Pauillac

France

Yes, you read that correctly - a marathon; and for the fourth year in succession! More specifically, 26.5 miles of running between some of the finest châteaux of the region; this is the longest marathon in the world.

Since this is French, it was done in style - the route was lined with 22 refreshment stands and 21 "gourmet" stands - these servde tastings of some of France's finest wines and produce. The Gentlemen were blessed with much cooler weather this year, allowing them to focus more on the wine tasting.

The Goddess of Beer...

Tynedale Beer Festival

Saturday June 15th

1254 Train from Ncl

Corbridge

The Gentlemen love Beer Festivals, and this is their favourite - not only because it's a great day out, because we were again official sponsors the event!!

Tradition has it that we meet for a few cheeky ones in the Centurion before heading out to the festival on the 1pm(ish) train. There's normally a curry in town afterwards. The train times got in the way of that this year, so we met in the pub next to the rugby ground and got a few pints in whilst waiting for the festival to open. Not the best idea, but it was a good one at the time.

Next year we plan to up the ante on the sponsorship, so stand by for details!

An Athletic Stag Do

Thursday April 25th

La Palma

Mallorca

Every now and again one of the Gentlemen slips up and gets married. Naturally he is supported by the Society at this difficult time - and this was one such time.

The Gentlemen departed early Thursday morning (sustained by a few cheeky airport beers - as one does at a Stag event); heading for sunny Majorca. Well, the plan went well apart from the sun.

The following few days were spent cycling, dodging the rain and enjoying a few beers. Despite the weather, a good time was had by all - so much so that the resolution was passed to make it an annual event.

Join us next year for the Majorca 312.

The Goddess of Beer...

Newcastle Beer Festival

Thursday April 11th

Northumbria Univeristy

Newcastle upon Tyne

The Gentlemen love Beer Festivals, and this is one is right on their doorstep - what's not to like?

Due to the cold weather, the Gentlemen refrained from having a few cheeky ones on the way into the festival and went straight for the main event. As usual, plenty of beers were tasted; and the fact that it was a work-night made absolutely no difference whatsoever.

Comments were made on the following Friday about how difficult these events have become over the years. At the Height of the Skite in 2001, daily skiting was the norm, work or no work!

The NGS End of Season Ski Trip

Saturday March 23rd-30th

Mayrhofen
Austria

With the proper ski trips out of the way, one of the Gentlemen twisted another's arm into having a final send-off to this year's season. It seemed a good idea since the conditions in the Alpes this year have been amongst some of the best in living memory.

And so the group headed off to Mayrhofen for a fantastic week in the snow. Plenty of excellent food, snow during the week, bright sunshine (and a bit of fog from time to time), and the occasional beer, made for a very enjoyable week away!

Full details of the Gentlemen's skiing engagement are always on the dedicated NGS Ski Page.

Paris

A Bit of Culture

Friday March 15th

Royal Fromentin

Paris

Paris is one of the Gentlemen's favourite cities and we generally aim to visit annually. There was a half-plan to attend the France v Scotland match on the Satuday evening (16th), but a fine dinner got in the way so a local bar helped out with televisual coverage.

As always, we were well-fed, well-watered and well-entertained in this beautiful city. OK, so we had some late nights, but in all it was an excellent trip.

It's Rome's turn again next year....

Saxons v Scotland A

Friday February 1st 2013

20:00 KO @ Kingston Park

Newcastle upon Tyne

It had been a while since the Gentlemen convened at the local rugby ground, so it was decided to honour Kingston Park with a visit on the eve of the England v Scotland match.

We tried to enjoy a few beers in the Twin Farms, but it was rammed and most of the drinking time was taken up with queuing at the bar. That said, everyone enjoyed the game (in the snow) and afterwards retreated to The Carriage in Jesmond for a warming curry.

Full details of the match were available here.

Newcastle Assembly Rooms

NGS Burns' Night Supper

Saturday January 26th

19:00 Assembly Rooms (18:00 for Whisky Tasting)

Newcastle upon Tyne

Once again, the NGS was proud to be attending the 14th Annual Burns' Supper.

The NGS 2013 Ski Trip

Sunday January 6th-13th 2013

Tignes

With the cheeky pre-Christmas skiing out of the way, the Gentlemen expected to have some decent snow in Europe and their skills suitably refreshed to enjoy it.

The destination this year was Tignes, and it didn't let us down. We enjoyed days of blue skies and fresh powder; all topped up with refreshing beers in the evening.

Keep up with our ski plans on the dedicated NGS Ski Page, which also give details of the flights booked to date.
